Commissioned Photos
Commissioned Photos
Concept: Two artists from San Diego commissioned photos; drone architecture stills of specific subjects in the Seattle area. They were assembling an art installation and intended to combine still images to create a 3 dimensional architectural photography using a lenticular effect. The resulting mounted pieces would measure about 3x4 feet so they needed very high resolution portrait images. Perfect for a DJI Mini 4 Pro! To complicate matters, they would not be able to be in Seattle for the shoot.
Planning: We used Google Maps to 'scout' possible subjects and locations and Google Earth to pre-visualize the resulting shot angles. Once we and our clients had chosen locations, we scouted them in person looking at elevation, altitude, angles, hazards and on the lookout for restricted sights to avoid. Their need was urgent and we chose flight dates for the following weekend. And we began monitoring flight weather forecasts using NOAA Weather - our best weather planning app.
Flying: The weather cooperated and we flew two missions early morning Saturday and four missions early morning Sunday. We then uploaded low res 'proofs' and shared them with our clients via Dropbox.Â
Delivery: Once our clients had chosen the 10 images they wanted from among the proofs, we uploaded full resolution files they will use for their installation. And we archived the remaining photos in case they want some other views. We shot the images above during our missions. They have been processed to bring out color and detail. We are super pleased with the experience, the resulting flights and photos, and the collaboration with our clients!
Problem: The competition is fierce for a company offering 'adventure sport' experiences. It's very hard to stand out from the crowd.
Solution: Most adventure sports are super exciting from above. Think how much motocross benefits from aerial videos. Or rock climbing. Or windsurfing. Or ... well let's not belabor the obvious. Think about your target customer ... younger, video oriented, with hyper focused attention span. Drone-based sports promotion can reach them.
